Rooted in Grace, Proclaiming Truth
The Foundation of Our Faith
At Columbia Presbyterian Church, our beliefs aren’t just theological propositions—they’re the living truth that shapes everything we do. We joyfully affirm the historic Christian faith as expressed in the Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechisms.
Core Convictions
Scripture Alone – We believe the Bible is the inspired, inerrant Word of God—our supreme authority in all matters of faith and life. We’re committed to expositional preaching that lets Scripture speak for itself.
Christ Alone – Salvation is found in Jesus Christ alone, who lived a perfect life, died a substitutionary death, and rose again for our justification. We preach Christ crucified as the only hope for sinners.
Grace Alone – We are saved by grace alone through faith alone. Good works flow from salvation but never contribute to it. This radical grace humbles us and compels us to love.
Soli Deo Gloria – All of life is to be lived for God’s glory alone. From worship to work, family to community, we exist to magnify our great God.
Distinctively Presbyterian
Covenant Theology We see God’s redemptive work through the lens of covenant—His faithful promises to His people across generations. This shapes how we view baptism, the Lord’s Supper, and family discipleship.
Reformed Worship Our worship is regulated by Scripture—simple, reverent, and God-centered. We emphasize the means of grace: prayer, preaching, and sacraments.
Presbyterian Polity We’re governed by a plurality of elders (presbyters) according to the New Testament pattern, connecting us to the broader PCA through our local presbytery, the Chesapeake Presbytery.
The Gospel We Proclaim
We believe humanity’s fundamental problem is sin—rebellion against our Creator. The solution is the gospel: God Himself coming in Christ to bear our punishment and credit us with His righteousness. This free gift is received through faith alone.
